1. Engineer’s day is celebrated today (15th September) across the country. This day is celebrated in the honor of “Sir Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya” who was born on the same day in 1860. He was
the chief designer of the flood protection system designed and built for the city of Hyderabad, as well as the chief engineer responsible for the construction of the Krishna Raja Sagara dam in Mysore which created the largest reservoir in Asia at that time.
2. Hindi Diwas is being observed all over the country on
Saturday (14 th September). President Pranab
Mukherjee gave away Official Language Awards for outstanding contributions made towards
promotion of Hindi language. Hindi was adopted as a language for official transaction by the constituent
assembly on 14th September 1949.
3. India successfully conducted a second test flight of its indigenously developed nuclear- capable
‘Agni-V’ long-range ballistic missile, which has a strike range of more than 5000 km, from the
Wheeler Island off Odisha coast today. The surface-to-surface missile, which can carry a nuclear warhead of
more than one tonne, witnessed an ‘auto launch’ and detailresults of the trial will be known after thorough
4. BJP students’ wing ABVP has won three out of the four top posts in Delhi University Students
Union elections. ABVP candidate Aman Awana was elected President and Utkarsh Chaudhary, Raju
Rawat were elected as vice-president and joint secretary respectively.
5. The Government has appointed M.K. Goel, who is also the Director (Commercial), as the Chairman
and Managing Director of Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC). He succeeds Satnam Singh, whose term
as Power Finance Corporation CMD ended on 31st July this year.
6. The government approved the proposal of Rs 700 crore capital infusion in Export-Import Bank of
India to support future growth of the lender. This fund infusion in the current financial year will help EXIM
bank to complaint with the latest regulatory norms related to capital adequacy ratio and also it will help to satisfy its credit requirements.
