1. 44.12 million rupees grant assistance to Nepal Academy Library pledged by India on 30 January 2014. It will be for the construction of Nepal Academy’s library building in Kathmandu.
Nepal Academy, established in 1957, is a premier national
institution devoted to the promotion of language, literature, culture, philosophy
and research activities.
Various projects being implemented under the programme will help the Nepal people in their strides of attaining peace and prosperity.
2. Michael Rogers has been nominated as the Director of National Security Agency by the US president Barack Obama. His name was announced by Defence Secretary of US on 30 January 2014.
Defence Secretary also announced the name of Rick Ledgett as the new Deputy Director of NSA who is at present its Chief Operating Officer.
3. The government on Friday said the economy may have expanded by 4.5 percent in 2012-13, compared with the earlier estimate of 5 per cent, on account of subdued performance in agriculture, mining and manufacturing.
However, gross domestic product (GDP) growth in 2011-12 has been revised upwards to 6.7 percent from 6.2 percent, according to the estimates of National Income, Consumption Expenditure, Saving and Capital Formation.
Important to Note :
Growth in 2012-13 is the lowest in a decade, with the previous low of 4 percent recorded in 2002-03.
4. Rajasthan on 1 February 2014 scrapped its approval for the foreign direct investment in multi-brand retailing, which was given earlier by the previous Congress state government led by former Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot.
Important to Note : Now it is BJP govt in the state led by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.
Thus Rajasthan bacame second state after Delhi to withdraw approval for FDI in multi-brand retail.
